Prayer Request

Pre-event Prayer Needs

  • Volunteer teams to help in promotion, preparation, and on the day of the event.
  • Other churches in the area that would partner to make this a community-wide event.
  • Pray that each of the host site coordinators would know that their strength is in God and God alone. Take away any doubts and fears they may be experiencing right now.

Prayer for All Americans Attending the Event

  • Pray for the hearts of those who need to hear what God has laid on the hearts of our speakers to share.
  • Pray for those who are considering inviting others to attend the event, that they would have courage to invite friends and that their friends would have open hearts.
  • Pray that God's will would be done in the lives of all who attend.

Day of the Event

  • Health, strength, and peace for the site coordinator and volunteers working at the event.
  • Pray that details will fall into place and things will run smoothly.
  • Pray that technically things would work well and the weather would not hinder the technical equipment and/or the attendance of the day.

Event Planning Timeline

14 Weeks Before Event

  • Recruit Prayer Team Leader to organize prayer effort for event.
  • Invite and confirm at least 4 other churches will attend your event
  • Recruit Volunteer Team Leaders to take responsibility for various tasks:
    • Publicity
    • Ticket Sales
    • Voter Registration
    • Lunch/Refreshments
    • Technical
    • Room Set-up/Clean-up
    • Child Care (optional)
  • Have each church attending your event recruit Volunteer Team Leaders for:
    • Publicity
    • Ticket Sales

12 Weeks Before Event

  • Meet with Volunteer Team leaders to brainstorm, strategize, assign tasks
  • Continue prayer efforts for event
  • Develop detailed promotional plan
  • Begin promotion in church and community
  • Decide how you want to handle registration, tickets

8-10 Weeks Before Event

  • Have Team Leaders recruit volunteers for their areas
  • Continue prayer efforts for event
  • Plan food service
  • Contact local Christian and Community organizations to get them involved
  • Continue promotion

6 Weeks Before Event

  • Meet with Task Force to update, evaluate, tweak
  • Continue prayer efforts for event
  • Continue promotion

2-3 Weeks Before Event

  • Continue prayer efforts for event
  • Confirm plans for room set-up/clean-up, food service, child care
  • Continue promotion

1 Week Before Event

  • Perform equipment tests on all technical equipment needed for the event
  • Continue prayer efforts for event

Day Before Event

  • Set up the auditorium
  • Organize onsite prayer over all auditorium seats in preparation for attendees
  • Set up areas for registration, food service
  • Put up signs directing attendees to restrooms, child care, etc.

Day of Event

  • Make sure you have quality picture and audio via satellite or internet before or during the 30-minute countdown period preceding the program
  • Make sure everything is in place and ready to go

15 Minutes Before Event

  • Make announcement about refreshments, breaks, restroom locations

After Event

  • Clean up
  • Thank your volunteers
  • Pat yourself on the back, put your feet up, and rest!

Promotional Ideas

  • Have your pastor announce the event from the pulpit
  • Do a "skit" during the announcements at Sunday services – Be creative.
  • Use the PowerPoint slide on Sunday mornings.
  • Hang posters in your church and in your community:
    • Christian bookstores
    • High Schools
    • Businesses (gyms, nail salons, hair salons, dry cleaners, Starbucks, book stores, hardware stores, etc. etc.)
    • Other churches
  • Have a ticket table in the church lobby after Sunday services.
  • Stuff bulletins with inserts and put additional copies on your ticket table.
  • Hang posters or flyers in the restrooms at your church.
  • Give flyers to your local Christian bookstore for “bag stuffers.”
  • Make announcements in Sunday School, Bible Study classes, MOPS Groups, other small groups, etc.
  • Organize a phone campaign to call the members of your church.
  • Send an email to the members of your church.
  • Put a write-up in your bulletin and newsletter.
  • Use the church website to promote the event.
  • Contact other churches and get them on board! You can use the "Pastor's Email Invitation" template added to Promotional Downloads section below.
  • Provide bulletin inserts and posters for other area churches.
  • Send a press release to your local newspapers and Christian/Community organizations.
  • Publicize the event at local Christian schools.
  • Encourage the members of your church to invite at least one friend.
  • Consider funding scholarships for those who may not be able to purchase tickets.

Your Promotional Downloads

  Press Release: Download and customize this press release and then send it to all of the media outlets in your community.
Pastor's Email Invitation Template: In the open Word document, fill in information for your church, add the Pastor's personal message, copy and paste into the body of a new email and send to your e-lists of church members and friends in the community.
Posters: You can download a modifiable PDF version of the poster (size: 11"x17"). Add your church information and print as many as you need.
Flyers: You can download a modifiable PDF version of the flyer (size: 8.5 "x11"). Add your church information and print as many as you need.
Bulletin Inserts: Add your church information to this modifiable PDF bulletin insert and print as many as you need. Add to Sunday morning bulletin, place near posters, distribute to businesses and friends to promote the event.
HTML Email: Use this template to create an email invitation to the event. You can add additional information above the html picture. Send this to the people of your church and encourage them to forward it to their friends.
Power Point Slide: If your church utilizes PowerPoint for announcements on Sunday mornings, add your church info and give the PowerPoint slide to the person responsible for the rotation.

Facebook Create Event Instructions

  1. Login to your Facebook account, click on 'Events' in the left navigation, then click on 'Create Event'
  2. Enter the date and time of your event.
  3. In the 'What are you planning' field, enter "Doing The Right Thing Event"
  4. Enter the address where you will be hosting or attending the event.
  5. In the 'More info' field enter:

    "Join Chuck Colson and thousands of Christians nationwide! Our society is fast losing her spiritual and ethical mores, and we see it every day in our culture. Strong ethics are needed in our personal as well as our professional lives, to turn our country, our churches, and our neighborhoods around."

  6. To add an event photo, right click on the logo below and save the image to your computer. Then on your Facebook page, click "+Add Event Photo", and select the logo that you saved.

  7. Finally, click 'Create Event' to save your event to your Facebook page.
